Jessica is victimized in just the way you say. Tess Harper's Oscar nom made no sense to me... and indeed, a low year all around for Best Actress (but still not as bad as 2005, I say!)

That the play won the Pulitzer Prize is something I don't even know how to talk about.

(My word verification, "Uuwhaat," sounds like a noise I made often during this movie. Try it as either a question or an exclamatory interjection!)NicksFlickPickshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04607501848596529493noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15193298.post-74079201786664591662006-12-01T21:38:00.000+00:002006-12-01T21:38:00.000+00:00I didn't hate her in it (though a Best Actress nom...I didn't hate her in it (though a Best Actress nomination?! Was this, Sigourney aside, the worst year ever for the category, Oscar pals?). But Diane is truly dire and Jessica hobbled by the "tough", kohl-eyed look that makes her a dead ringer for Daryl Hannah in Blade Runner. And all that dismal family history! Diane's shrunken ovary! Sissy's noble fling with the 15-year-old black stallion! The fact that their mum hanged herself and her cat too! I think it ought to be maybe half-reappropriated as a camp classic... and as such comes in at something like a D+, for me.

Then again, I just remembered awful Tess Harper as the Mae Pollitt neighbour, picking her teeth in extreme close-up. No fun at all, that. Maybe a D.tim rhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11893294970751318226noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15193298.post-37170673822411695732006-12-01T21:32:00.000+00:002006-12-01T21:32:00.000+00:00This comment has been removed by the author.tim rhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11893294970751318226noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15193298.post-6586262015798367732006-12-01T15:20:00.000+00:002006-12-01T15:20:00.000+00:00I often say that Sissy Spacek can do no wrong. I wonder now if it can possibly have been quite that bad. Still, the operative word here was "Crimes."NicksFlickPickshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04607501848596529493noreply@blogger.com
