Excellent review indeed. I watched it again recently, and it made me cry! It was one of those moments where two of the characters are talking and the camera starts to cut from one room to the next, and the voices are reduced to echoes as the camera observes an eerily empty, newly cleaned bedroom. I don't know why, but that had me in tears. Weird.. I guess it's just. that. good.
That's very sweet, thanks. I had a mission to evangelise. There was all sorts of stuff I'd love to have got in there — those shots you're talking about, David, and that lovely business with Johnny and the VCR, and Ashley and the broken cat, and Eugene's screwdriver, and cigarettes, and the great, great hymn scene. But Telegraph readers are just going to have to discover all that for themselves. What a film!
I would like to keep singing the song, but I always get distracted by Alessandro while it's being sung during the credits, and so I don't know the words. I only know his beauty.
I love the shots of empty rooms.
I love the look on her face when she realizes that her husband actually does have roots here, has a whole past in this town that doesn't necessarily match the cosmpolitan thing they've got going on. I love her stroking the back of his head at the end of the movie, after he's claimed he's glad they're out of there.
