"Worst: Gong Li (Curse of the Golden Flower, Hannibal Rising)"
Really?
That beautiful woman has not given a bad performance in her entire career and is a utter goddess. Especially COTF. She won a butt load of best actress awards for Curse in Asia .
Jolie also disagree with. One of the worst actresses on screen and 'Mighty" sucked to boot. The rest is great.
BDT will not get a nom, but he deseves it.
No argument on Gong's beauty, but I thought it was put to especially brittle, limited use in both those movies. Bitchy and haughty she can do, and I'll admit I had some time for her in Memoirs of a Geisha as a result, but she was an outright failure as a tragic heroine in Flower. She never let her guard slip, which was exactly the wrong way to play the role. Admittedly, nothing else in the movie was helping her much. As for Hannibal... blecch.
What is it that people dislike so much about A Mighty Heart? I'm genuinely curious to know.
I am even more in love with the Worst citations than the best ones... expert picks in all categories. (I thought Gong was terrible in Curse, but then, I haven't liked her in any of her post-"comeback" roles, to include 2046 and, especially, Eros).
Also, btw, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
LOVING the love for Jindabyne and This is England. My #1 of 2006 and 2007 respectively.
Yeah, Gong has never quite equaled the perfection she reached in the early nineties in films like Raise the Red Lantern (then again, who has equaled the perfection of Red Lantern since then? Good lord, that's a fine film).
Oh, and even when she's being terrible (Hannibal Rising), there's no denying she's a knockout.
loving the love for Marco Beltrami's 310 to Yuma-- it'll be in my year end picks--btw great blog!
